Business Appreciation Night

Next Tuesday, Feb. 25th, Pleasanton will host Oswego for our last regular season basketball game.  The junior cheerleaders will perform between the two varsity games.  This is also Business Appreciation Night, and a representative from each local business in attendance will be recognized at half-time of the boys' varsity game.  Business Appreciation Night is sponsored by the PHS Student Council.  This is our way of thanking the businesses for their support throughout the year.  Come on out and cheer for the Blu Jays!

Fort Scott Community College Senior Day is November 7th.  Parents are invited to the FSCC campus along with current high school seniors.

Enrollment for the 2013-14 School Year

Enrollment for the 2013-14 school year will be on Wednesday, August 14th and Thursday, August 15th, 2013 in the grade school office and the high school office. 

No appointments are necessary. Office personnel will not be on site until the 

week of August 12th to answer questions.

Asthma Education Module Available

The American Lung Association has developed a FREE online asthma education module that will provide important basic asthma information for parents & care givers of children with asthma.  Topics include:  about your child’s asthma, their medications & possible triggers.


We believe this 50 min. module will be very helpful & informative to parents.  If everyone in a child’s life has the same information we can all work together to keep kids healthy, in school & out of the hospital.  Parents that complete the online module will get a FREE asthma trigger checklist to help them manage their child’s disease.


This link also includes information on how to access a new computer game Lungtropolis which is for children & helps them understand about their disease & teaches them to become an effective asthma manager.

Upcoming Events: Parent Teacher Conferences, Spring Pictures, and No School

Parent Teacher Conferences
The Pleasanton USD 344 school district wishes to invite all students and parents and guardians to the Spring Parent teacher conferences beginning on Tuesday March 12, and Thursday March 14.  Conferences will beging at 4pm and end at 8pm both nights.

The high school has open appointments so parents are free to visit anytime during those hours.  The grade school has sent out notes to sign up for conference times for each student.  If you did not get a note about conference times, please contact Danita Snyder in the grade school office.

Spring Pictures
Spring pictures will be taken during school hours on Wednesday, March 13.  There is no sitting fee involved and if parents would like to purchase packets, they may do so.  

No School
There will be no school on Friday, March 15th due to parent teacher conferences.  In addition, Spring Break will commence on Monday, March 18th.  School will resume as normal on Monday, March 25.

Early Childhood Screenings Coming Soon

Our early childhood special education preschool is designed for children who are developmentally delayed in two or more areas.  Your child must be 3 to 5 years old and not eligible for kindergarten.

Using Screening tools, we assess your child's cognitive, fine and gross motor skills, speech and language, self-help and social skills.

The purpose of the screening is to identify children who may qualify for our special education preschool and determine if further formal evaluations are necessary.

Blu Jay Support!

Junior high and high school students.  Your Blu-jay basketball teams want your continued support and attendance at the remaining home games!  As an incentive, all 7-12 students can again get into home games for only $1!!!  Here is the need to wear school colors (Blue/White) or school spirit  wear and gather together in the student section during games to get the deal! So, pick out your clothes and show up!!   Be there for only $1 and show everyone your Blu-jay Pride!!!   Go Blue!

Police Explorer Program Offered to Students age 14-21

There is a meeting January 3rd, 2013, at 7pm in the Pleasanton City Hall for students interested in law enforcement.  The program is called Police Explorer.

Several events are planned and students will learn leadership skills, respect, marksmanship, law enforcement protocols, accident scene procedure, bomb threat response, and proper use of law enforcement equipment.  Participants will participate in ride-alongs, career achievement awards, conferences, and scholarship opportunities.  The program lasts and coincides with the school year.

Cost can range from $15-$25.

School Reach Calls Home for Unexcused Absences

Beginning on Monday, Dec 3, at 9 am, School Reach will automatically be contacting parents and guardians of those kids who have an unexcused absence. If you get a call in error or you think you have received incorrect information about your student from School Reach, please let us know by calling the school office. 

If you would like your School Reach number changed, please contact the school office.

The first couple of days will be tricky as we work through this new system. Thank you.
