District Plan for Safe Return to In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Services

PART I.

Describe how the district will maintain the health and safety of students, educators, and other staff and the extent to which it has adopted policies, and a description of any such policies, on each of the following safety recommendations established by the CDC:

(A)   Universal and correct wearing of masks.

In USD 344 we do not require masks for the 2022-23 school year, however if you choose to wear a mask the proper way to wear it is listed below from the CDC:

1.       Wash your hands or use hand sanitizer before putting on your mask.

2.       Put the mask over your nose and mouth and secure it under your chin.

3.       Fit the mask snugly against the sides of your face, slipping the loops over your ears or tying the strings behind your head.

4.       If you have to continually adjust your mask, it doesn’t fit properly, and you might need to find a different mask type or brand.

5.       Make sure you can breathe easily.

(B)    Modifying facilities to allow for physical distancing (e.g., use of cohorts/podding).

Classrooms student desks will maintain 6 ft spacing for social distancing.  Lunchroom seating will be spaced as well as school bus seating.  A larger bus will be used for the route that will allow more space between students.

(C)    Handwashing and respiratory etiquette.

The following information is shared from the CDC website.

Key Times to Wash Hands

You can help yourself and your loved ones stay healthy by washing your hands often, especially during these key times when you are likely to get and spread germs:

  • Before, during, and after preparing food

  • Before and after eating food

  • Before and after caring for someone at home who is sick with vomiting or diarrhea

  • Before and after treating a cut or wound

  • After using the toilet

  • After changing diapers or cleaning up a child who has used the toilet

  • After blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing

  • After touching an animal, animal feed, or animal waste

  • After handling pet food or pet treats

  • After touching garbage

What is respiratory hygiene/cough etiquette?

1.       Cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing.

2.       Use tissues and throw them away.

3.       Wash your hands or use a hand sanitizer every time you touch your mouth or nose.

(D)   Cleaning and maintaining healthy facilities, including improving ventilation.

Classroom air quality assessments will be performed by the Greenbush Education Service Center.   Using ESSER funds the assessment will help the district determine the rooms with the highest need.   HVAC units will then be transitioned with HEPPA filtration to allow better room air quality.

(E)    Contact tracing in combination with isolation and quarantine, in collaboration with the State, local, territorial, or Tribal health departments.

Pleasanton USD 344 will assist the Linn County Health Department with contact tracing based on our cohort groupings.   Linn County Health department will then be responsible for assigning isolation and quarantines as well as making contact with those that are recommended for isolation or quarantine.

(F)    Diagnostic and screening testing.

Diagnostic and screening testing is available through our local health department.  Our onsite nurse will assist with prescreening as needed.

(G)   Efforts to provide vaccinations to school communities.

Staff and student vaccinations will be available through the Linn County Health Department.

(H)   Appropriate accommodations for children with disabilities with respect to health and safety policies.

Specific health needs will be addressed through the student health plans.

(I)      Coordination with State and local health officials.

USD 344 will work with and cooperate fully with the local and state health departments.

Part II.

Describe how the district will ensure continuity of services, including but not limited to:

(A)   services to address students' academic needs

The elementary school will run a Multi-Tiered System of Support for reading and math that utilizes collaborative instructional teams who meet regularly to review student data from screening, progress monitoring, and outcome assessments to identify next steps for instruction for students across all tiers.  These services will continue in the summer through our summer school program.

(B)    students' and staff social, emotional, mental health

The school district will implement a Multi-Tiered System of Support for Social Emotional Learning that utilizes collaborative teams who meet regularly to review student data on student motivation, social connectedness, and self-regulation and identify appropriate resources and practices that can support all students.  Student feedback will be gathered on a variety of issues to give students a voice on how to best support them as learners.   These services will continue in the summer through our summer school program.

(C)    other needs, which may include student health and food services.

The district will continue to provide breakfast and lunch at a reasonable cost as well as free and reduced lunch opportunities for students who qualify.    A full time nurse will provide nursing services for students.  Dental screening and dental services will also be provided to students.  USD 344 will continue to monitor the situation and make adjustments as necessary.
